The Glaisdale Round (11 Miles)

Bank holiday monday was reserved for a walk, it had to be something worth walking but something that wasn’t too long as we didn’t have all day. We chose to do the Glaisdale round as we love the area around Glaisdale and hadn’t been there for a while, we also knew there was a cracking pub at the end of the walk which always helps. The walk can be found here courtesy of yorkshiremoors.co.uk so i won’t go into turn by turn detail. The walk it’s self is nice and simple and a nice easy walk  the main problem being that most of it is along roads or tracks, which one a bank holiday were full of 4×4’s, who weren’t the most careful in the world, however the views along the walk are absolutely stunning, especially when you get...

Trainers on the hills, moors and mountains

Right, it’s time for me to have a bit of a rant (so it might not be a very cohesive post) Yesterday i read and watched a lot of news stories concerning the rise in the number of call outs that the various Mountain and search and rescue teams had received this year. Each report mentioned that the increase was mainly due to people venturing into the hills without the correct gear. Having witnessed many people heading off onto the North Yorkshire Moors or up into the Lakeland fells with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing and a map on the back of a leaflet, i can see their point. What really wound me up was the constant point that you shouldn’t head off walking in anything other than hiking boots, this may surprise some of you reading this,...

Great Day

Today was a fantastic day, one of the best in a long while,  i had a quick 8mile walk to saltburn for a beer and some fish and chips, i took a bottle of flying dog classic pale ale with me and sat on the beach with it and a cracking portion of fish and chips, which was pretty perfect. then to top things off England won the Ashes in emphatic style – Congratulations to all the team, i hope freddy goes on a bender like last time as that was great...

A couple of nice deliveries

I had a bit of a bad day today, things that should would, didn’t, things that were working stopped working and some stuff i needed to work just wasn’t playing ball. Luckily i got a couple of deliveries to cheer me up, the first was my Rab Powerstretch grip gloves, that arrived back from the nice guys at Rab. My old ones broke so i sent them back and the guys there kindly agreed to replace them so it was just a case of waiting for their new delivery of them. They are the best gloves i have ever had for hiking, they are warm, light and pack down really small, they are also really flexible so you can easily do your laces or zips up with them….so thanks to Rab my finger won’t go cold this winter. The second delivery was more hiking gear, this...

Busy, Busy, Busy

The last few days have been really busy, firstly there is work, shouldn’t complain in the current climate, but there is lots of it as a result i have lots going on in my head at the moment so im a bit all over the place. Then we had a family BBQ at the inlaws, had a great time, drank lots of beer, played some darts and ate way too much yummy food. The weather has also been nice and warm so it’s been a case of watering the plants every day, sometimes twice a day….on the plus side it has meant lots of ripe chillis and tomatoes along with some cracking spuds and carrots. I’ve managed to fit in a couple of posts on my chilli blog including a couple of reviews and some wicked chilli recipes, i have also managed a couple of beer reviews and a...
