Hairy Dieters and Diet update
It’s been a slow start (blogging wise) to 2013, I’ve got loads of stuff I want to write about different things including our trip to the Isle of Skye, the new walking gear that’s replaced the stuff I sold on ebay and I’ve loads of beer and food stuff to share. I’ve just not had time and we are already nearly at the end of January. The good news is I’m back on doing the Hairy Dieters, I put on 6lbs over the Christmas Period which i’ve now just about lost. I’m still doing cooking plenty from the Hairy Dieters book but am also mixing it up with some other options and home made recipes. One of the best things I’ve had of late was the Marks and Spencer Baji Balti Cod which is currently on offer at £6 for 2 meals,...

Its the run up to Chrismas and things have been a bit hectic so here’s a quick breakdown of weeks 19 and 20, there was a parmo as a treat one night but I just made sure I went on the cross trainer the next day, my cross trainer sessions have slowed a bit but I’m still keeping my weight down..apart from 1 week where I put 2lbs on which i’ve now lost. Week 19: Cajun chicken + Harrisa chicken…. I had the harissa chicken and my wife had the Cajun chicken, served both of them with the sweet potato wedges and a big salad. Delicious and simple. Cottage pie – when I made the cottage pie a few weeks ago I seperated some portions into foil dishes I had from the meat pies, i topped with the leek and potato mash then froze them…defrosted...

Due to the weight I’ve lost over the past few months, my 2 favourite waterproof jackets and my favourite down insulation jacket now don’t fit, So I’ve listed them on Ebay. The first is my Rab Super Dru jacket, a lightweight alpine waterproof shell, perfect for UK hill use, it really is a great jacket and in fantastic condition. The RRP is well over £200 and my auction starts at just £90 with a buy it now of £126. Check it out here The second is my Rab Microlight Alpine down jacket, it’s a great jacket for keeping in your bag and popping on when you get cold or for wearing from the off on cold winter days. It’s the cosiest jacket I have and I’ll be sad to see it go but i really do now need the size down. Check it out...

This past couple of weeks hasn’t seen much Hairy Dieters action because we’ve had a long weekend in Belgium which is in no way good for your health….the combination of strong beers and rich food is delightful though. So as a result i’ve only made 2 meals from the Hairy Dieters, the first was the steak with mushroom sauce…which was absolutely gorgeous but I still prefer using a nice bit of rib eye and griddling it. The second I re made the Cajun chicken with sweet potato wedges which was as tasty and filling as ever…although I was in the mood for some extra spice so added an extra sprinkle of chilli powder. Hopefully I’ll get back on track soon and won’t have put too much weight on at weigh in...

This week the Hairy Dieters cookbook threw a couple of cracking recipes up. Firstly the gammon and parsley sauce…we have gammon quite a bit but usually with egg, beans and chips, so the parsley sauce was a new one to me, It tasted fantastic and worked really well with the smoke in the gammon. I served it with a small jacket instead of new potatoes as It’s just what I had in the cupboard. Next up I used some of the Hairy Dieters burgers I froze a few weeks ago, instead of using mozzarella I topped them with a bit of halloumi that I’d griddled along with some red onion and I only used 1/2 a bun each. The burgers had frozen really well and kept their shape when I defrosted and cooked them. The final recipe I made from the book was the cottage...
