X-Socks Trekking Energizer Compression
A long while back James from buy x socks sent me these Socks For me to try! I’m A big fan of x socks and have a few pars of their brilliant airforce 1’s along with a couple of other pairs and some of their awesome boxer shorts. I’ve been giving them a really thorough testing on longer walks and decided that they are most definitely going to be part of my kit that I take on the coast to coast. X socks compression are supposed to gradually compress your legs, accelerating the re circulation of blood against gravity and back to the heart. This is supposed to lead to a lower pulse rate which helps to keep you going that little bit longer. I can’t say I’ve tested my pulse while out walking so don’t know if that is true but I...

A couple of years ago some friends bought me a couple of Ajungilak Air Pillow’s for when we went wildcamping. They very quickly became our must take piece of luxury when ever we went camping, they were small, light and really comfy. For those of you not familiar with the Air Pillow, its basically a blow up pillow in a bright yellow fleece cover that packs down nice and small. The fleece means its really comfy and warm when camping although if you don’t blow it up just right it can be a little squeeky when ever you move, with it being air filled it gives you a lot of room for adjustment, unlike the fibre filled pillows on the market. Unfortunately on our last couple of trips I noticed the valve on mine wasn’t sealing properly and as a result kept...

Following in the legendary Wainwright’s footsteps and walking the coast to coast is something we have wanted to do for a few years now, but have never really given it any serious thought, then a few months ago we decided that it may be a good way to spend our 30th birthdays (in 2011) our birthdays are 13 days apart so in theory we could set off on Emily’s 30th and finish on my 30th. However when we were sat in the pub after doing the Glaisdale Round, we got talking and decided that we would prefer to do it sooner rather than later, so we are now planning to bring it forward a year and do it in 2010. I’ve already got a book and a few useful websites, have a rough idea of how and when we want to do it, using a mixture of campsites and...
Read MoreThe Glaisdale Round (11 Miles)
Bank holiday monday was reserved for a walk, it had to be something worth walking but something that wasn’t too long as we didn’t have all day. We chose to do the Glaisdale round as we love the area around Glaisdale and hadn’t been there for a while, we also knew there was a cracking pub at the end of the walk which always helps. The walk can be found here courtesy of yorkshiremoors.co.uk so i won’t go into turn by turn detail. The walk it’s self is nice and simple and a nice easy walk the main problem being that most of it is along roads or tracks, which one a bank holiday were full of 4×4’s, who weren’t the most careful in the world, however the views along the walk are absolutely stunning, especially when you get...
Read MoreTrainers on the hills, moors and mountains
Right, it’s time for me to have a bit of a rant (so it might not be a very cohesive post) Yesterday i read and watched a lot of news stories concerning the rise in the number of call outs that the various Mountain and search and rescue teams had received this year. Each report mentioned that the increase was mainly due to people venturing into the hills without the correct gear. Having witnessed many people heading off onto the North Yorkshire Moors or up into the Lakeland fells with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing and a map on the back of a leaflet, i can see their point. What really wound me up was the constant point that you shouldn’t head off walking in anything other than hiking boots, this may surprise some of you reading this,...
