Darlington Vs Newcastle United

This is my first and probably last blog about football. It’s not something I usually feel the need to write about, while I enjoy a bit of banter and football craic I often find something ends up spoiling it. Last night was one of those times, a time when I wanted to crawl under a rock and hide. The occasion was a FRIENDLY match between Darlington and Newcastle at Darlington’s ground, The Northern Echo Arena. The evening started as it usually does with a quick pint, the bar under the ground was quite smart, nicely decorated and relatively quiet, what I did noticed though was a fair few people that looked a little bit too young to be drinking, let alone having a pint in each hand. They were already quite drunk and getting a little loud so we decided to...

Long time no blog

Hi everyone, sorry it’s been so long since I have blogged on here, I know I have still got to finish my holiday report from September, post my thoughts on the X-socks trekking compression socks that I recieved for review, give you an update on my coast 2 coast planning and generally get back up to speed. There have been a number of reasons that I’ve not blogged on here for a while but it was mainly down to Work and a couple of home projects really taking off. Work wise I have worked on some big projects, one of the most exciting probaby being Iexerci.se which has involved a huge ammount of effort from me and guys at work in order to get it handed over and launched, which according to this article should be within the next couple of weeks. I will...

Beer reviews, chilli recipes and winnings

The last week or so has been really busy for me both at work and at home. The weather has been a mix of the good, the bad and the very bad, which has meant a little less gardening and walking and a little more blogging and jobs around the house. I finally got round to moving all of my stuff from my parents house, so some of bank holiday weekend was spent up to my eyeballs in CDs and other stuff I had left there, I forgot just how many CD’s I own. I’ve done a fair few new blog posts, both on Beer Reviews and Chilli Up North I forgot just how long it takes to write stuff up and i have a huge backlog but the ones i have published recently are: Spicy Mozarella Melts Recipe Reggae Reggae Chicken Chargrills Review Garden Update August 2009 Hogs Back A over...

Trainers on the hills, moors and mountains

Right, it’s time for me to have a bit of a rant (so it might not be a very cohesive post) Yesterday i read and watched a lot of news stories concerning the rise in the number of call outs that the various Mountain and search and rescue teams had received this year. Each report mentioned that the increase was mainly due to people venturing into the hills without the correct gear. Having witnessed many people heading off onto the North Yorkshire Moors or up into the Lakeland fells with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing and a map on the back of a leaflet, i can see their point. What really wound me up was the constant point that you shouldn’t head off walking in anything other than hiking boots, this may surprise some of you reading this,...

Great Day

Today was a fantastic day, one of the best in a long while,  i had a quick 8mile walk to saltburn for a beer and some fish and chips, i took a bottle of flying dog classic pale ale with me and sat on the beach with it and a cracking portion of fish and chips, which was pretty perfect. then to top things off England won the Ashes in emphatic style – Congratulations to all the team, i hope freddy goes on a bender like last time as that was great...

A couple of nice deliveries

I had a bit of a bad day today, things that should would, didn’t, things that were working stopped working and some stuff i needed to work just wasn’t playing ball. Luckily i got a couple of deliveries to cheer me up, the first was my Rab Powerstretch grip gloves, that arrived back from the nice guys at Rab. My old ones broke so i sent them back and the guys there kindly agreed to replace them so it was just a case of waiting for their new delivery of them. They are the best gloves i have ever had for hiking, they are warm, light and pack down really small, they are also really flexible so you can easily do your laces or zips up with them….so thanks to Rab my finger won’t go cold this winter. The second delivery was more hiking gear, this...
