Weekend walk in photos
On Sunday we decided to make the most of the lovely weather and did a version of the Roseberry Topping walk, but parked up at Hutton Village, went up to Highcliff Nab then across the Moor to New Row before wandering along the road to the cafe at Kildale, after a toastie and an ice cold beer we then headed up the hill to Captain Cook’s Monument before walking to Gribdale Gate followed by Roseberry Topping and then back down to Hutton Village. Anyway, here are the pics (click to make them bigger), there’s a few more on Flickr too. This is another one of our “Banker” walks…just like the walk around Roseberry Topping, we use it when we have a few hours to do a few miles but don’t want anything difficult but still want to see a few things along the way. Despite coming 11th in the Rudest place names in Britain it’s relatively quiet apart from summer bank holidays. It’s close to Dalby Forest and there’s also a campsite just along from the car park. Length: 11.3 Miles Time: 3-4.5 hours depending on walking speed/breaks. Start/Finish: Car park at the top of the Hole of Horcum (around £2 for all day parking) Grid reference SE 852 936 Refreshments: Horseshoe Inn Levisham, Cafe/Tea room in Lockton are both on route but there is also the Fox and Rabbit just...

This is another one of my favourite walks, it’s only just up the road and has a bit of everything, it even has one of the best tea rooms at the half way point, which not only does excellent scones and toasties but some great bottles of beer too. It works out at about 11 Miles depending which options you take along the route. Even if you don’t use this route you will see that there are loads of paths that you can take so use your imagination to explore some fantastic moorland. I usually find the best place to park is the little car park just outside of Newton Under Roseberry, failing that there is a car park right at the bottom of Roseberry Topping but it’s usually busy. If you’ve parked just outside of the town, head along the roadside...

After a lovely 18 mile walk round the Hole of Horcum and the Bridestones we decided that, as we were so close to Cropton, it would be rude not to call in for a quick pint at The New Inn. I’ve been a big fan of the Cropton Brewery’s bottled beers for a few years now and I usually have one or two in my cupboard. For those who aren’t familiar with Cropton Brewery, it’s a small craft brewery on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. It’s been open for over 17 years (but brewing in Cropton goes back hundreds of years) and has a restaurant and pub attached called The New Inn. It is situated in the village of Cropton, a lovely little village set in stunning surroundings. The pub is well decorated and also allows dogs which is a real bonus to...
