Coast to Coast – Planning

Following in the legendary Wainwright’s footsteps and walking the coast to coast is something we have wanted to do for a few years now, but have never really given it any serious thought, then a few months ago we decided that it may be a good way to spend our 30th birthdays (in 2011) our birthdays are 13 days apart so in theory we could set off on Emily’s 30th and finish on my 30th.

However when we were sat in the pub after doing the Glaisdale Round, we got talking and decided that we would prefer to do it sooner rather than later, so we are now planning to bring it forward a year and do it in 2010.

I’ve already got a book and a few useful websites, have a rough idea of how and when we want to do it, using a mixture of campsites and B&B’s. I’ve set up a google doc to store all my findings and plant the walk out, that way the info is always @ hand.

I’ll probably blog on how my plans are going, but if anyone has any tips, links or phone numbers that might help then please let me know.

Hey, I’m also thinking of doing the c2c! Its the planning bit I’m getting on stuck on though. Was going to opt for all B&B’s but think it might get a bit too expensive. Having never walked more than 10miles in any one go (and that was a while ago now!), and only ever camped once in my whole life I began to think the c2c may be little too challenging on my first attempt at “serious walking” so may opt for the Viking way this new yr instead! Good luck with your trip though!
