Hairy Dieters Update

Hairy Dieters Update

It’s been a while since my last blog post on the Hairy Dieters, I’m still loosing weight and exercising, although not quite as much as I’ve been a bit busy and full of cold. I’ve been keeping up with eating mostly Hairy Dieters food mixed with my own recipes and the odd treat, I’ve even cooked a couple of recipes from the book that I’d not made before. The golden vegetable soup was really filling and really tasty, especially after I added a splash of Tabasco and some chilli flakes but the real star of the show was the bacon and asparagus flan, I substituted the asparagus for some broccoli which I’d blanched and added a few sliced mushrooms. I was a bit concerned that the pastry might be a bit soggy and the bottom and that...

Hairy Dieters week 19 and 20

Hairy Dieters week 19 and 20

Its the run up to Chrismas and things have been a bit hectic so here’s a quick breakdown of weeks 19 and 20, there was a parmo as a treat one night but I just made sure I went on the cross trainer the next day, my cross trainer sessions have slowed a bit but I’m still keeping my weight down..apart from 1 week where I put 2lbs on which i’ve now lost. Week 19: Cajun chicken + Harrisa chicken…. I had the harissa chicken and my wife had the Cajun chicken, served both of them with the sweet potato wedges and a big salad. Delicious and simple. Cottage pie – when I made the cottage pie a few weeks ago I seperated some portions into foil dishes I had from the meat pies, i topped with the leek and potato mash then froze them…defrosted...

Hairy Dieters Week 17 and 18

Hairy Dieters Week 17 and 18

This past couple of weeks hasn’t seen much Hairy Dieters action because we’ve had a long weekend in Belgium which is in no way good for your health….the combination of strong beers and rich food is delightful though. So as a result i’ve only made 2 meals from the Hairy Dieters, the first was the steak with mushroom sauce…which was absolutely gorgeous but I still prefer using a nice bit of rib eye and griddling it. The second I re made the Cajun chicken with sweet potato wedges which was as tasty and filling as ever…although I was in the mood for some extra spice so added an extra sprinkle of chilli powder. Hopefully I’ll get back on track soon and won’t have put too much weight on at weigh in...

Hairy Dieters Week 16

Hairy Dieters Week 16

This week the Hairy Dieters cookbook threw a couple of cracking recipes up. Firstly the gammon and parsley sauce…we have gammon quite a bit but usually with egg, beans and chips, so the parsley sauce was a new one to me, It tasted fantastic and worked really well with the smoke in the gammon. I served it with a small jacket instead of new potatoes as It’s just what I had in the cupboard. Next up I used some of the Hairy Dieters burgers I froze a few weeks ago, instead of using mozzarella I topped them with  a bit of halloumi that I’d griddled along with some red onion and I only used 1/2 a bun each.  The burgers had frozen really well and kept their shape when I defrosted and cooked them. The final recipe I made from the book was the cottage...

Dieters breakfast, lunch and snacking.

Dieters breakfast, lunch and snacking.

I’ve been getting asked what I’ve been doing for breakfast, lunch and snacking, I’ll be honest I’ve not been doing an awful lot. Breakfast usually comprises of cereal, Muesli or a couple of slices of brown toast with lighter spreadable butter, jam or honey. If I’m feeling a bit different I’ll get some crumpets or tea cakes. I have made the hairy dieters full English and that was delicious but not something I could have every day. Lunch is generally a warburtons square wrap with either ham, chicken or a sandwich filling in plus lots of lettuce and salad. When I’ve not fancied a wrap I’ve used pitta breads or had a bowl of soup. Generally lunch comes in between 200 and. 300 calories which when you compare to a lot of...
